Genius Look 316 Video Camera (Page 2 of 3)

Specs And Installation

Firstly the specifications, taken from the Genius website.

The Specs

The Look 316

Contents

The box that the Look 316 comes in is attractive and sturdy, with some good information on the rear it certainly stands out from the usual plastic packaging that other manufacturers have used. Open the box and you are provided with a manual, driver and application CD and a slick looking little webcam.

As the specs suggest, the camera has a spring loaded clip which is capable of opening approx 15mm. This allows the camera to be clamped gently onto the top of a notebook or (very thin) monitor. The lens of the camera can tilt up and down through a 50 degree range, and through a full 360 degrees whilst clamped.

Installation was simplicity in itself. Simply run the supplied CD, install the drivers then plug the Look 316 into a free USB port. You have a choice of either using the standard Genius software or something called DD Theme Party. This liitle app allows you to select from a variety of themes with which to frame your video output. Most of the themes utilise facial recognition and motion tracking in order to follow your images as you move around. This can, if you really want, be captured as a little .gif animation. Ever the hardened journalist, Ive made a small sample video for your viewing pleasure. (be warned though, its not pretty and its 955k)
